# SheetsFinance > SheetsFinance is an add-on for Google Sheets and Microsoft Excel that puts live and historical financial data into spreadsheet cells through custom formulas such as `=SF("AAPL")`. It covers quotes, 30+ years of financial statements, ratios, price history, technicals, dividends, analyst data, ETFs, calendars and news for 80,000+ stocks, ETFs, funds, indices, forex pairs, cryptocurrencies and commodities. Separate products add US options data (full OPRA chains, Greeks, implied volatility and 20+ years of history) and read-only brokerage sync (holdings, balances, orders and transactions from 30+ brokers). Every plan starts with a 15-day free trial with no card required. Formulas recalculate inside the spreadsheet, so a model built with SheetsFinance stays current without copying or exporting data. The same functions work in Google Sheets and Excel. ## When SheetsFinance fits - Building a stock valuation model, DCF, watchlist, dividend tracker, screener, portfolio tracker or options analysis in Google Sheets or Excel that needs live or historical market data. - Replacing or extending Google Sheets' `GOOGLEFINANCE()` with fundamentals, financial statements, ratios, analyst estimates, ETF holdings, international markets or options data. - Teams of analysts who work in Google Sheets or Excel and need consistent, auditable data inside shared workbooks. Business and enterprise licensing is available. - Pulling holdings and transactions from several brokerage accounts into one spreadsheet. - Asking Claude, ChatGPT or another AI assistant to build a stock model or finance spreadsheet that stays live. The SheetsFinance MCP server hands back a ready-made model or a new workbook built from SheetsFinance formulas (see AI assistants and MCP below). SheetsFinance is not a trading platform: brokerage connections are read-only and it cannot place orders. Options data covers US-listed contracts. ## Writing SheetsFinance formulas Every function is a spreadsheet custom function. Most data comes from `SF()`: ``` =SF(symbol, type, subtype/metric, year, options) ``` Examples taken from the documentation: ``` =SF("AAPL") current price (default) =SF("AAPL", "income", "all", "2019-2024", "NH") income statements, no header row =SF("AAPL", "incomeQ", "revenue&netIncome&eps") quarterly income metrics =SF("AAPL", "ratios", "returnOnEquity¤tRatio", "2020") ratios for one year =SF(A2:A502, "quote", "price&volume&marketCap&pe") batch: one call for a range of tickers =SF_TIMESERIES("AAPL", TODAY()-365, TODAY(), "", "date&open&close&volume") =SF_SCREEN("marketCap>1000000000&exchange=NYSE,NASDAQ&isEtf=false", "all", "ob=beta&limit=10") =SF_OPTIONS_PRO("AAPL", "calls&puts") =SF_BROKERAGE("alpaca", "holdings", "symbol&name&price&marketValue") ``` Conventions: - Chain several metrics with `&`, for example `"price&volume"`. Output columns follow the order given. - Common options: `"NH"` removes the header row, `"-"` reverses the date order, and they combine as `"-&NH"`. Many data types also accept `"currency=XXX"` and `"scale=K|M|B"`. - Multi-row results spill into neighbouring cells, so leave room below and to the right of the formula. - Pass a range of tickers to batch them in one call rather than writing one formula per ticker. - Some locales use `;` instead of `,` as the argument separator. - Use the documented function contracts below rather than guessing argument names or metric keys. Before an account is connected, the add-in runs in a limited demo mode with sample data for AAPL, GOOG, NVDA, TSLA, MSFT, BTCUSD and ETHUSD (quotes, one year of daily prices and three years of statements). Full coverage needs a free trial or paid plan. ## Functions - [Function list](https://sheetsfinance.com/docs/function-list-2cn91.md): all 12 functions with signatures and parameters (`SF`, `SF_TIMESERIES`, `SF_DIVIDEND`, `SF_CALENDAR`, `SF_SPARK`, `SF_TECHNICAL`, `SF_NEWS`, `SF_SCREEN`, `SF_MAP`, `SF_OPTIONS`, `SF_OPTIONS_PRO`, `SF_BROKERAGE`) - [Build your first formula](https://sheetsfinance.com/docs/build-your-first-formula-tewmv.md) - [Batching](https://sheetsfinance.com/docs/batching-6t8sm.md) - [Years, ranges and relative periods](https://sheetsfinance.com/docs/years-ranges-and-relative-periods-a9w6o.md) - [Currency conversion and scaling](https://sheetsfinance.com/docs/currency-conversion-and-scaling-1xmuk.md) - [Financial statements](https://sheetsfinance.com/docs/financial-statements-x5opz.md) - [Key ratios](https://sheetsfinance.com/docs/key-ratios-0ndpx.md) - [Time series](https://sheetsfinance.com/docs/time-series-xrw23.md) - [Stock screener](https://sheetsfinance.com/docs/stock-screener-rn3fk.md) - [Options](https://sheetsfinance.com/docs/options-66jjg.md) - [Brokerage](https://sheetsfinance.com/docs/brokerage-vz6l5.md) - [Symbol formats and exchanges](https://sheetsfinance.com/docs/symbol-formats-and-exchanges-dye7u.md) - [Fix common spreadsheet errors](https://sheetsfinance.com/docs/fix-common-spreadsheet-errors-7m85g.md) - [Full documentation index](https://sheetsfinance.com/docs/llms.txt): every documentation article as Markdown ## AI assistants and MCP SheetsFinance runs an MCP server at `https://data.sheetsfinance.com/mcp` (Streamable HTTP). Add it as a custom connector in Claude, ChatGPT or another MCP client. The first time it connects, the client opens sheetsfinance.com to sign in: approve with a SheetsFinance account, create one with a 15-day free trial, or paste a team Connection ID from your admin on the same screen. The older `https://data.sheetsfinance.com/mcp/?conn=` URL still works for clients without OAuth. What the tools do: - `model_catalog` and `get_model`: list SheetsFinance's published models (DCF valuation, WACC, Graham number, DuPont, growth, earnings, ETF analysis, dividend and total return calculators, watchlists, portfolio trackers and more) and hand one to the user with their ticker filled in. - `workbook_plan` and `create_workbook`: plan validated SheetsFinance formulas for a custom request, then build a new workbook around them with labels, inputs and native spreadsheet formulas. - `function_describe`: the exact argument, metric and option contract for any SheetsFinance function. - `docs_list`, `docs_search` and `docs_get`: search and read the SheetsFinance documentation. How files are delivered: - Excel: a download link to an `.xlsx` file, which lasts 7 days. - Google Sheets: a copy link to the published model, with a step telling the user which cell to type their ticker into. Custom workbooks are created as Excel files for now; Google Sheets users get the planned formulas to paste. - Each connection can create up to 50 files a day. The tools never return financial values in chat. The data loads in the user's own spreadsheet once the SheetsFinance add-on is installed and connected, keeps refreshing, and follows the data access of the user's plan. To answer a question about a value, give the user the published model or the `=SF` formula that shows it. Example prompts: - "Build a DCF valuation model for NVDA that I can open in Excel." - "I use Google Sheets. Give me a WACC calculator for Tesla." - "Make an Excel workbook comparing gross and operating margins for AAPL, MSFT and GOOGL over the last five years." - "Set up a dividend tracker for KO, PEP and JNJ." - "What's the SheetsFinance formula for Apple's quarterly revenue and EPS?" - [MCP server](https://sheetsfinance.com/docs/mcp-server-6pifr.md): setup for each client, sign-in, tools and limits. ## Install - [Google Sheets add-on](https://workspace.google.com/marketplace/app/sheetsfinance_stock_market_analysis/454765795033) ([setup guide](https://sheetsfinance.com/docs/google-sheets-ld1i3.md)) - [Microsoft Excel add-in](https://marketplace.microsoft.com/en-us/product/WA200009892?tab=Overview) ([setup guide](https://sheetsfinance.com/docs/microsoft-excel-wjn7n.md)) - [Create an account](https://sheetsfinance.com/register) ## Pricing Prices in USD, as listed on the pricing pages in October 2026.
