MCP Server

Connect any MCP-compatible client to the SheetsFinance MCP server so your AI assistant can search the docs and help you build spreadsheets with real-time market data. The connection uses your SheetsFinance Connection ID to authenticate.

What the MCP server does

The SheetsFinance MCP server exposes the docs as a searchable knowledge base. Once connected, your AI assistant can look up SheetsFinance functions, data definitions, and usage patterns to help you build formulas and dashboards faster. You can also use it inside an AI-enabled spreadsheet environment to generate spreadsheets and dashboards with SheetsFinance data.

What you need

  • An MCP-compatible client or AI assistant that supports custom server connections

  • Your SheetsFinance Connection ID from your Account Dashboard

If you do not have a SheetsFinance account yet, create one on the website first, then copy your Connection ID from the dashboard. For details, see Account and Pricing.

Connect to the MCP server

  1. Copy your Connection ID from your SheetsFinance Account Dashboard.

  2. In your MCP client, open the custom server or MCP settings.

  3. Enter the MCP server URL, replacing XXX with your Connection ID:

https://data.sheetsfinance.com/mcp/?conn=XXX

  1. Save the server. Your AI assistant will now use the SheetsFinance MCP server to search docs and answer SheetsFinance questions.

Tested with Claude

This MCP connection is tested with Claude, which supports custom connectors. Once connected, Claude can reference SheetsFinance docs to help you write formulas, understand data definitions, and troubleshoot issues.

Use Claude in Excel with SheetsFinance

When you use Claude in Excel, the MCP connection lets Claude reference SheetsFinance docs while building spreadsheets and dashboards. Ask Claude to pull market data, build financial models, or explain function syntax, and it can query the SheetsFinance knowledge base through the MCP server.

Other LLMs

Support for other LLMs depends on whether the platform allows custom MCP server connections. If your AI assistant supports MCP or custom server endpoints, you can try the same URL format with your Connection ID.
